Jeff Akens
Mr. Akens has a long and distinguished track record with Western Career College, demonstrating success at each progressive step of his career. Mr. Akens has served in a variety of management positions including Director of Career Services, Campus Executive Director of three campuses, and regional manager in the Pacific Northwest for Western’s sister division, Apollo College. More recently, Mr. Akens oversaw the successful expansion of the college’s Central Valley campuses, and was responsible for the initiation of many of WCC’s school-wide projects. As President of Western Career College, he oversees eight campuses that have an annual enrollment of over 4,500 healthcare, legal and technology students. Prior to joining Western, Mr. Akens worked for ten years as Director of Marketing and a partner in his family’s Sacramento-based pest control business. He was recently elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS). Mr. Akens is a 1983 graduate of California State University, Sacramento, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and a minor in government. He earned a certificate in Public Relations from the University of California, Davis extension program, and is a graduate of the Career College Association’s Leadership Institute.
