Western Career College Honors Graduating Nurses with Pinning Ceremony
ANTIOCH, Calif. – (Feb. 08, 2010) – Western Career College will honor 101 graduating nurses by holding a pinning ceremony in front of the graduates’ family and friends, on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the El Campanil Theatre. The ceremony is a tradition in nursing where the graduating nurse’s, dressed in the traditional white uniform and nursing cap, receive their school pin, presented by the nursing faculty, and recite The Nightingale Pledge as they hold lighted candles.
“This is a special time for our graduates. The pinning ceremony symbolizes a bridge from their nursing education into the nursing profession,” said Darlla Roesler, dean of nursing at Western Career College. “At a time of shortages in the healthcare industry, we are proud of the education Western Career College has offered these 101 nurses and the knowledge they take into the communities they will be serving.”
Florence Nightingale, known as “the lady with the lamp” because of her heroic actions during the Crimean War (1853-1856), was a pioneer reformer and has many modern nursing techniques attributed to her.
