Western Career College Hosts “Seal Out Tooth Decay” Day
SAN JOSE, Calif. – (Feb. 08, 2010) – Western Career College is recognizing National Children’s Dental Health Month in February by offering basic screening assessment, diagnostic radiographs (x-rays), preventative services, sealants, fluoride varnishes and educational materials to children from the community.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for not only our students to make a difference in the community, but for children to learn at a young age the best way to care for their teeth,” said Sherry Heaney, program director at Western Career College. “It’s important for children to learn the significance of daily oral hygiene, regular dental visits as well as the impact healthy food and snacks can have on their oral health.”
The American Dental Association (ADA) held the first national observance of Children’s Dental Health Day on Feb. 8, 1949. This single day observance became a week-long event in 1955. In 1981 the program was extended to a month-long celebration known today as National Children’s Dental Health Month, a time when teachers help students become more aware of good dental hygiene and tooth care.
