Western Career College Sacramento Student Awarded Allied Health Scholarship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Dec. 10, 2009 -- Western Career College Sacramento campus student, Nicole Chissie, is the recipient of the 2009 allied health scholarship. The California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) honors two students who exhibit great promise in the allied health fields with a $5,000 scholarship every year.

“Because I’ve seen firsthand what terminally ill patients need while they are fighting the toughest battle of their lives, it’s second nature for me to bring my patients compassion along with the strong leadership and nursing skills I’ve learned as a student at Western Career College Sacramento,” said Chissie.

Currently enrolled in the Western Career College vocational nursing program, Chissie is fulfilling not only a dream of her own, but fulfilling a promise she made to her cousin who passed away after a brave battle with brain cancer.  Nicole’s dream of becoming an oncology nurse drives her to find a balance between school and the trials of being a single mother.  Ranked at the top of her class, she looks forward to enrolling in the registered nursing program and eventually achieving a Master of Science in Nursing.

The CAPPS Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of former Western Career College Director Sue Fleming.  It honors Fleming and others that have had an immense impact on the private sector in California. Recipients of the scholarship are awarded an achievement plaque and check during a ceremony at the CAPPS Annual Conference.
