Apollo College Announces New RN "Bridge" Program
BOISE, Idaho -- February 18, 2008 -- Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) looking to move up in their careers should get the vital stats on a new Registered Nurse (RN) Bridge program being offered at Apollo College’s Boise campus.
The new RN Bridge program provides theoretical and clinical experiences in nursing and incorporates knowledge from the related disciplines. The goal of the program is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions where they will function as professional providers of care, professional members within the discipline of nursing and professional managers of care.
Additionally, the RN Bridge program will offer a broader theoretical base of knowledge allowing graduates to apply deeper critical thinking while practicing as a professional nurse; and will prepare graduates with a foundation for upward mobility into higher levels of nursing education.
Students completing the program will earn an Associate of Science degree and be eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).
Apollo’s LPN and RN programs are built on a base of general education courses designed to give nursing students critical thinking and technical skills, as well as perspectives and insights from the humanities and social sciences. This helps graduates make sound decisions, work efficiently, function as integral members of a medical team, and serve as responsible health care professionals.
Knowledge gained through courses of study is practiced in clinical and simulation laboratory experiences, including a registered nursing preceptorship.
“The mission of the program is to develop highly qualified, knowledgeable, skill-oriented graduates with the well-rounded abilities and professional manner to become exceptional nurses,” says Diane Fuhrman, nursing program chair. “Our NCLEX-RN exam pass rates at other campuses as well as our current 92.49 NCLEX-LPN pass rate prove that we’re training highly competent nurses.”
